The Nigerian federal government has budget 64 Billion Naira to build a new fence around the University of Maiduguri.
The latest news reaching us today is that the Nigerian Federal government has begun the construction of the 27.3-kilometer perimeter fence, which is to be built around the University of Maiduguri to check incessant attacks by Boko Haram terrorists.
According to the federal government, this project is valued at sixty-four billion Naira (N64bn), and this will greatly aid in stopping Boko Haram terrorists who have been penetrating the North-East part of the institution’s campus.
Speaking on this development, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities in UNIMAID, Dr. Dani Mamman, disclosed that only the western and southern parts of the UNIMAID campus were initially fenced.
He said and I quote below: “The UNIMAID perimeter fence is still being constructed. The Federal Government has graciously approved the total sum of N64 bn for the construction of a 27.3-kilometer perimeter fence for the University of Maiduguri. That place is very porous.
“The ASUU UNIMAID wrote to the Minister of Education through the ASUU president after an explosion during which we lost a professor and seven other staff members.”
